Procedure for 9th Grade Course Selection & Override Directions

Course Selection Process

  • Teachers will recommend courses for their students in iPass. Comments are included if the teacher is recommending a level change. Teacher recommendations will be available for review by students and parents on Monday, February 25.  Please do not contact teachers to discuss recommendations until that date.
  • Students must log in to iStudent http://www.westfordk12.us/Pages/index   to review teacher recommendations and add elective choices by March 4 at 2:00 p.m.  The Program of Studies, found online at: http://wa.westfordk12.us/pages/westfordwa_progstudies/index should be consulted for course requirements, elective selections and course descriptions.
  • If a student or parent disagrees with a course a teacher has recommended, they make an alternate recommendation in iStudent.  This alternate course does not become a request unless the Override process has been completed and a signed form is received.
  • Student and parent must review course recommendations and add electives by Monday, March 4, at 7:00 a.m.  Final selections must include at least 32.5 credits (maximum 35 credits) with alternate choices included for all electives requests (type into Comment section next to first choice electives in iStudent).
We recognize that this is a quick turn around but easily attainable when parents and students discuss and plan for course selection options during the first three weeks of February.

For a step by step guide to the scheduling process, go to: http://wa.westfordk12.us/pages/westfordwa_progstudies/index.

Override Process

  • If a parent wishes to override a teacher recommendation, the parent must go to the appropriate department page on the WA website to complete the Override form. The form should not be initiated until the reporting of 2nd trimester grades.
  • No override requests will be considered after May 9, 2013.
