Westford Academy Gay Straight Alliance
Meetings are Wednesdays after school
Goals
*To provide support for students who are themselves or have family members and friends who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, questioning, or transgender.
*To preserve a safe school environment that protects students from harassment, violence, discrimination, and prejudice.
*To sensitize the school community to issues of diversity and provide a link to statewide efforts on these issues.
Activities
*The GSA offers a Leadership Training Summit in the fall to students who are interested to help the Guidance Department staff co-teach a class within the freshman health curriculum on GLBTQ respect.
*Attend networking meetings with other GSAs in Massachusetts.
*Enjoy the company of other students in a safe and confidential setting.
*Discuss relevant current events.
*Each spring the GSA sponsors a school-wide Day of Silence when interested students may voluntarily take a vow of silence and/or sign up to wear a rainbow ribbon to show support for those who feel that it is unsafe for them to be open about their sexual orientation.
