Good afternoon,

I am sending my Friday email one day early.  A team from Westford Academy will be attending a Challenge Success Conference this weekend at Stanford University in California.  Once the team returns the plan is to share our findings with the entire school community.  You may recall, last spring I shared with you the results from the Challenge Success Survey of Westford Academy students.  As a result of the survey we have made some small changes to help with the stressors of high school.  This weekend we will delve deeper into the survey results and will follow up with specific recommendations from the team of professionals at Stanford.  Exciting work ahead.  Stay tuned!

School Picture Day/Student ID's - October 4th
Student Identification photos will be taken by LifeTouch on Wednesday, October 4th during the school day.  Student ID's allow students to take advantage of commercial and retail discounts offered by local merchants and can be used for field trips and conferences which typically require student status identification.  The photo ID may be requested at co-curricular events.
The photos taken will also be available for purchase.

The College Process - Class of 2018
This week, the Counseling Department presented about the college process to the Class of 2018 and their parents/guardians. For those interested, the slide show can be found on the WA Guidance website under "Senior Parent Night 2017-2018" or by following this link. We look forward to working with you over the next few months.

WA has just started its 2017-18 school year and so has its nationally recognized DECA Business Club.  The largest high school business club in Massachusetts for the last several years (400+ members) is encouraging each of its student members to "Build Your Legacy". DECA is a competition-driven club, which uses real-life business scenarios to improve students' problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. Each club member has the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in scholarship money and this year's goal is the international competition held in April in Atlanta, Georgia. DECA's annual Student/Parent Information Night will be held on Tuesday, September 26th and conveniently repeated on Wednesday, September 27th from 7:00 - 7:30 PM in the WA PAC. It is open to any interested student or parent and is required of all new and returning members. A presentation of pertinent club information, followed by a Q & A with Advisors/Officers and membership registration will highlight the event.

Nurses Clinic:
If your student has been diagnosed with a life threatening allergy and is prescribed an epipen, please have them bring their epipen order form and 1 epipen to our clinic.  Please note that these items must be in our clinic in order for your child to participate in any field trips.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email me.  Thank you.
